The National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (NCFC), the voice of America's farmer-owned cooperatives since 1929, has joined the Center for American Food Power (CAFP) as a member of the Food Power Alliance. CAFP welcomes NCFC and the farmer-owned businesses it represents.

"Every link in the food chain depends on farmers having reliable access to markets, inputs, and capital, and cooperatives are how many of them get it," said Brett Sciotto, Founder of the Center for American Food Power and Chief Executive Officer of Idealyst Innovation. "NCFC's reach into farm country gives the Center a direct line to the producers whose businesses carry out any national food strategy."

"Co-ops exist because farmers are stronger when they work together, and the same is true of the food system as a whole," said Duane Simpson, President and CEO of NCFC. "We are proud to join the Center for American Food Power and help bring the unique perspectives of farmer-owned businesses into conversations about where American agriculture goes from here."

NCFC represents the business and policy interests of America's farmer-owned cooperatives, with a membership that includes regional and national agricultural cooperatives and state and regional cooperative councils. Cooperatives allow producers to work together to own and control businesses providing the inputs and services they need; earnings are then returned to the farmer-owners based on their business activity with the cooperative. NCFC advocates before Congress, federal agencies, and other policymakers on issues including farm policy and risk management, agricultural labor, trade and market access, transportation and infrastructure, energy, conservation, nutrition, and the tax and regulatory frameworks that affect farmer-owned businesses.

As part of the Center, NCFC will provide guidance and professional support, drawing on a membership of cooperatives that supply seed, fertilizer, feed, and fuel, market and process commodities, and provide credit and other financial services to their farmer-owners.
