Farm Credit Council Joins Center for American Food Power

The Center for American Food Power (CAFP) is pleased to welcome the Farm Credit Council, the national trade association for the Farm Credit System, as a new member of the Food Power Alliance.
"No national food strategy works if the people growing the food cannot finance the next season," said Brett Sciotto, Founder of the Center for American Food Power and Chief Executive Officer of Idealyst Innovation. "Farm Credit's customer-owned structure keeps it close to the farms, ranches, and rural communities that carry that risk, and the Farm Credit Council's perspective will give our work on long-term strength a financial grounding."
Established by Congress in 1916, the Farm Credit System is a nationwide network of customer-owned cooperative financial institutions that provide credit and financial services to farmers, ranchers, agricultural cooperatives, agribusinesses, and rural communities in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Its lending supports farmland purchases, operating expenses, equipment, agricultural facilities, and the processing and marketing of agricultural products, as well as rural housing and infrastructure. The Farm Credit Council represents the Farm Credit System's institutions before Congress, the Executive Branch, and other policymakers, advocating for policies that preserve the System's ability to serve borrowers through changing economic conditions.
As part of the Center, the Farm Credit Council will provide guidance and professional support, bringing an agricultural finance and rural investment perspective to CAFP's analysis of the strength and long-term capacity of the nation's food system.
"Reliable credit allows a farmer to plant, expand, adopt new technology, and stay in business through a challenging year," said Christy Seyfert, President and CEO of the Farm Credit Council. "Those capital decisions are made long before a crop reaches the market. The Farm Credit Council is pleased to join the Center for American Food Power to ensure agricultural finance is part of the national food security discussion."
